Fairfield Museum Summer Camps

Bring your kids to the Fairfield Museum, where summer is filled with fun and adventure! Summer camps are based on the rich history of our region and the Fairfield Museum’s dynamic exhibits and collections. Kids will travel back in time to become history hunters through hands-on projects and fun activities. Along the way, kids will explore our history and develop new skills in a creative museum environment.

9am - 12pm Session: $175

Summer Camps 2010

Colonial Life Camps at the Ogden House

July 5 - 9      9:30am - 1:30pm

For students entering grades 3 - 5

August 2 - 6     9am - 12pm

For students entering grades 1 - 2

Discover what life was like in colonial times through fun, hands-on projects and tours at the museum’s 1750 Ogden House on Bronson Road. Learn about colonial life through cooking, games, arts and crafts and more! The final day is spent at the Fairfield Museum where students experience the Old Academy Schoolhouse and the use antique tools in the Victorian Barn.

Star Spangled Banners

July 5 – 9                      9am – 12pm

For students entering grades 1 - 2

Celebrate the red, white and blue and show your true colors in this camp exploring flags and banners in history. Learn about colors, shapes, symbols and heraldry. We’ll create painted flags and shields, banners and whimsical windsocks!

Museum Camp - Around the World in 5 Days

July 12 – 16                  9:30am – 1:30pm

For children entering grades 3 – 5.

Learn about Fairfield’s early role in global trade and listen to stories of sea voyages and ship captains. We’ll take our own journey to the far reaches of the globe to study art, history and culture. Students will travel around the world, cooking fun snacks and creating mixed media artwork at each stop on our expedition!

Museum Camp – Beach Bums Cancelled

August 2 – 6                 9am – 12pm

For children entering grades 3 – 5.

Discover the history of Fairfield’s beaches and how people throughout history flock to the ocean, lakes and rivers for summer enjoyment. We’ll go beachcombing and exploring to find natural materials to create projects inspired by the shore and history, like Sailors’ Valentines, shell art and more! On the final day, we’ll have a picnic and play games at the beach.

Museum Camp – History Hunters     

August 2 – 6                 1pm – 4pm

For students entering grades 6 – 8.

August 23 – 27             9am – 12pm

For children entering grades 3 – 5.

Use clues and challenges to discover history from the museum’s exhibits and the surrounding historic district. Explore the Old Burying Ground with an orienteering challenge while learning about interesting people through tombstone art, vampire myths, legends and poetry. View historic maps, create your own treasure hunts and experience geocaching in this hands-on trip through history.
