Popular Research Topics

The following pages give quick introductions to our most popular research topics and access to some of our resources that are most in demand.

The Houses and Properties page offers starting points for researching a house or property of which you know the address or original owner. Whether you own a historic house, are selling or buying one, are researching the lives of your ancestors, or are simply interested in architecture, we can help! Our surveys, directories, maps, and indices may contain the information you are looking for. Take a look at what we have!

The Genealogy page gives a general overview of the types of materials we have that might help you fill those empty branches in the family tree. From printed biographies and genealogies to working papers and reference files, we have a wide variety of sources to help you with your detective work. This page contains a listing of all family names represented in our collections, and an abbreviated key that tells you what type of information we have. Take a look—and remember to check different spellings of the name you are researching!

Topics frequently used in school assignments are addressed on the Homework page. It introduces students of all ages to select topics such as The Burning of Fairfield, complete with source citations and bibliographic information for further research in our collections.

The Reference Files are a compilation of news clippings and sundry sources compiled over time by FMHC staff. You will find a complete folder list here for a quick and easy idea of what topics are covered.
